Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has offered a rare and deeply personal reflection on his long standing political journey alongside late opposition leader Raila Odinga.
He shedded light on a relationship that has shaped his public life for more than two decades.
Speaking during an interview, Junet recounted how his political identity has been inseparably linked to Baba, since his youth.
He revealed that he joined Odinga’s political movement at the age of 24. He says this decision defined his entire career. It also shaped his worldview in politics.
According to the outspoken legislator, Odinga played a pivotal mentorship role at every major turning point of his rise.
Junet noted that his first significant break came when Odinga supported him to become a mayor. This position exposed him to grassroots leadership and national politics.
That foundation later paved the way for his election to Parliament. There, he has emerged as one of the most vocal and influential figures. He is allied to the veteran opposition leader.

Junet emphasized that his loyalty to Odinga was not opportunistic but rooted in shared struggles, ideals, and sacrifices over the years.
He recalled being present during difficult political moments. These included periods of intense opposition pressure, electoral losses, and confrontations with the state. He insisted that his commitment never wavered.
The MP also used the moment to underscore Odinga’s role in nurturing young leaders across the country.
He argued that many politicians who occupy prominent positions today benefitted from Odinga’s mentorship, even if some later chose different political paths.
He framed his journey as a testament to patience and loyalty, saying political success is not always instant but built over years of trust and shared vision.
As debates continue within opposition circles about the future direction of the movement, Junet’s comments have reignited discussion about loyalty, succession and legacy in Kenyan politics.
For him, however, the story remains simple, his political life, from youth to national prominence, has been a journey walked side by side with Raila Odinga.
