Questions have been swirling over the expected absence of Governor Irungu Kang’ata from some of the President’s scheduled events, fueling debate over whether there could be underlying political cracks within the region’s leadership.
Murang’a, one of the politically influential counties in the Mt Kenya region, has recently become a battleground for loyalty, succession politics and strategic alliances as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With President Ruto expected to launch and inspect several flagship development projects, the spotlight has now shifted to Kang’ata, whose attendance or lack of it has triggered intense public and political interest.
In an attempt to clear the air, Governor Kang’ata addressed the matter, explaining that his schedule may not allow him to attend every event lined up during the President’s county visit.
According to the governor, some of the functions coincide with prior official commitments that had already been arranged before the President’s itinerary was made public.
