Speaking during his development tour of the Coast region, President Ruto said the government is committed to investing heavily in sports infrastructure as part of its broader agenda to empower youth and unlock economic opportunities across the country.

The Head of State noted that Kilifi has immense sporting talent that has remained untapped due to lack of adequate facilities.

According to the President, the proposed stadium will provide a platform for local athletes to nurture their talents while also attracting major sporting events and entertainment activities to the county.

He emphasized that sports can play a key role in addressing unemployment among young people by opening up opportunities in athletics, football, business and tourism.

Residents who attended the event welcomed the announcement with excitement, saying the project could significantly change the face of Kilifi Town.

Many youth groups expressed optimism that the stadium would create employment opportunities during construction and after completion through sports-related businesses and events.

Local leaders from Kilifi praised the President’s commitment, saying the county has for years lagged behind in terms of modern sports facilities compared to other regions.

They argued that the stadium would help nurture football and athletics talents from the Coast region, many of whom struggle to access quality training grounds.

The proposed facility is expected to include modern changing rooms, training grounds, spectator terraces, and improved security systems.

Government officials indicated that feasibility studies and planning for the project would begin soon, although no exact completion timeline was immediately provided.

President Ruto also reiterated his administration’s commitment to equitable development across all counties, saying no region would be left behind in the government’s infrastructure expansion plans.

He urged young people in Kilifi to embrace sports and other productive activities as a pathway to economic empowerment.

The announcement comes at a time when the government is increasing investments in sports infrastructure nationwide in preparation for future regional and continental competitions.

Analysts say the Kilifi stadium project could position the county as a key sporting destination at the Coast while also boosting local businesses through increased visitor traffic and sporting events.

If completed, the stadium is expected to become one of the largest sports facilities in the Coast region and a major landmark in Kilifi Town.
