A dramatic overnight operation involving bulldozers and hundreds of heavily armed police officers has sparked controversy. This controversy arose after a business premises near Nyayo Stadium was demolished. The demolition occurred under disputed circumstances.

Kimani wa Matangi is a long-time businessman and political figure. He is allied to a sitting governor. He has claimed that the demolition was part of a sustained campaign of political persecution. This campaign has been targeting him for the past three years.

According to Matangi, the raid occurred without prior notice. A court order existed to stop any interference with the property.

In a strongly worded statement, Matangi said the land on which the business stood was legally leased. He stated that all lease obligations had been met as required.

He noted that he has operated from the premises since 1994, calling the destruction not only unlawful but deeply personal.

The intention of this cowardly act is to obstruct my work as governor,” Matangi stated, adding that the actions would not weaken his resolve or deter him from public service.

He described the demolition as politically motivated, alleging that individuals were exploiting state machinery to intimidate and silence him.
