Ali Abdullahi Surraw has officially been sworn in. He is the new Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
This marks a significant leadership transition at one of Kenya’s most influential constitutional commissions.
The swearing in ceremony was held in Nairobi. It ushers Surraw into a role that places him at the heart of decisions on pay. He is also central to benefits for state officers and public servants.
As Secretary/CEO, he will be responsible for the day to day administration of the commission. He will implement SRC policies. He will provide strategic leadership at a time when public wage bills remain a contentious national issue.
Prior to his appointment, Surraw served as Deputy Registrar of Political Parties and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
In that role, he played a key part in overseeing political party compliance. He was instrumental in strengthening institutional governance. He also supported reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in Kenya’s multiparty democracy.

Speaking after taking the oath of office, Surraw pledged to uphold the Constitution, exercise professionalism, and safeguard the independence of the SRC.
He emphasized the importance of fairness, equity, and sustainability in remuneration matters. He noted that the commission’s work has a direct impact on public trust and economic stability.
SRC Chairperson and other officials welcomed Surraw, describing him as an experienced administrator with a strong background in public service and regulatory oversight.
They expressed confidence that his leadership would enhance efficiency within the commission and strengthen engagement with stakeholders across government.
Surraw takes office at a time when debates over salaries, allowances and the rising cost of governance continue to dominate public discourse.
