Orange Democratic Movement party leader Oburu Oginga has affirmed that the party will continue supporting the country’s broad-based government arrangement, even as it prepares for what he described as a determined push for victory in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a public address, Oburu said the party’s participation in the broad-based government does not weaken its political ambitions.

Instead, he insisted that the arrangement provides an opportunity for national unity and development while allowing ODM to position itself strongly for the future.

The veteran politician noted that ODM remains committed to working with other leaders in government to ensure stability and progress across the country.

He stressed that the party’s involvement in the current political arrangement should not be interpreted as a sign that it has abandoned its long-term goal of forming the next government.

According to Oburu, ODM leaders believe that their engagement in the broad-based government is beneficial for the country because it promotes cooperation rather than political hostility.

He said Kenya needs unity at a time when citizens are facing economic and social challenges, adding that political leaders must focus on solutions rather than endless confrontations.

Oburu also expressed confidence that the party will eventually secure victory in the 2027 polls.

He maintained that ODM has a strong support base across the country and remains one of the most influential political movements in Kenya.

The ODM leader pointed out that the party has consistently championed democratic reforms, good governance and the protection of citizens’ rights, factors he believes will continue attracting support from voters ahead of the next election cycle.

He urged party supporters to remain united and focused, saying internal cohesion will be key to achieving the party’s ambitions.

Oburu further dismissed claims from critics who argue that ODM’s collaboration within the government could weaken its political identity.

Instead, he said the party is mature enough to participate in national governance while still maintaining its independence and political agenda.

The remarks come at a time when Kenya’s political landscape continues to evolve following the emergence of the broad-based government arrangement involving leaders allied to William Ruto and those linked to ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The arrangement has sparked debate across the political divide, with some leaders praising it as a step toward national unity while others view it as a political compromise.

However, Oburu insisted that ODM remains firmly focused on the future.

We are working with others in government for the good of the country, but our objective as a party remains clear,” he said, expressing optimism that the party’s vision and policies will resonate with Kenyans when the country heads to the polls in 2027.

Political analysts say the comments highlight ODM’s attempt to balance cooperation in government with maintaining its identity as a competitive political force ahead of the next election.
