Uganda’s opposition leader Bobi Wine has warned that he will mobilize nationwide protests. This will occur if President Yoweri Museveni rigs this week’s general election. This has led to escalating fears of unrest as the country heads to the polls.

The National Unity Platform leader spoke during a media briefing. He said Ugandans are determined to defend their vote. They will not accept what he termed as electoral theft.

Bobi Wine accused state agencies of systematically undermining democratic processes. He cited alleged intimidation of opposition supporters. There were also arrests of campaign staff and restrictions on rallies.

We are prepared to stand with the people if the regime attempts to steal this election,” Bobi Wine said. He added that peaceful demonstrations would be unavoidable if the outcome does not reflect the will of voters.

The world must not turn a blind eye. If there is rigging we expect the international community, especially the United States, to act decisively,” he said.

President Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades, is seeking to extend his long grip on power.

His government has consistently dismissed allegations of electoral malpractice, insisting that Uganda’s elections are free, fair and credible.

Security has been heightened across major towns, with police warning against illegal assemblies.

Past elections in Uganda have been marred by violence, internet shutdowns and crackdowns on opposition figures.

As voting day approaches, tensions remain high. Many Ugandans are watching closely. They want to see whether the election will mark a turning point or spark fresh political turmoil.
