A fresh political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement following remarks by Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi.
He accused Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna of leading sustained attacks against Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
Atandi spoke during a public engagement. He said that a section of the party leadership had taken note of repeated criticism. This criticism was targeted and directed at Junet.
Junet also serves as the Minority Whip in the National Assembly. According to Atandi, the remarks risk undermining party unity at a time when cohesion is critical.
We have noted the attacks being led by Sifuna against Junet Mohamed. Let it be clear that we are firmly behind Junet,” Atandi said, drawing applause from supporters present at the event.

The Alego Usonga legislator praised Junet’s role in Parliament. He described him as a loyal party stalwart. Junet has consistently defended ODM’s interests both inside and outside the House.
He warned that internal divisions, if left unchecked, could weaken the party’s influence nationally.
Atandi’s comments come amid growing public disagreements among senior ODM figures, with differing views emerging on strategy, leadership style, and engagement with the current administration.
While Sifuna has previously positioned himself as a vocal defender of party ideals, his remarks have at times drawn sharp responses from colleagues.
Political observers say the exchange reflects deeper tensions within the party as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.
However, Atandi urged party members to resolve differences through internal mechanisms rather than public confrontations.
ODM must remain united if it is to remain strong. We should focus our energy on serving the people, not fighting each other,” he added.
The party leadership is yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but the unfolding exchange has already sparked intense debate among supporters and analysts alike.
