Two suspects have been arrested in Kawangware following a joint operation targeting unlicensed health facilities operating within the densely populated Nairobi neighborhood.

The arrests come amid growing concerns over the rise of illegal clinics offering medical services without proper approval, trained personnel, or basic safety standards.

According to police and health officials involved in the operation, the suspects were found running separate health facilities that were not registered with the relevant regulatory bodies.

The facilities were allegedly offering outpatient services, administering injections and dispensing drugs to unsuspecting patients despite lacking licenses from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).

The operation was carried out by officers from the National Police Service working alongside officials from the Nairobi County health department.

Authorities said the raid followed intelligence reports and complaints from residents who raised alarm over questionable medical practices and frequent complications reported by patients after visiting the facilities.

During the crackdown, officers confiscated assorted drugs, medical equipment, and patient records from the premises.

Preliminary assessments indicated that some of the drugs were improperly stored, expired or not clearly labeled, posing serious health risks to patients.

Investigators are now working to establish the source of the medicines and whether the suspects are part of a wider network operating illegal clinics in the area.

Nairobi County health officials warned that unlicensed facilities endanger lives by exposing patients to misdiagnosis, infections and unsafe treatment.

They emphasized that only registered health facilities with qualified personnel should be allowed to operate, especially in high density areas such as Kawangware where residents may be vulnerable due to limited access to affordable healthcare.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to operating unlicensed medical facilities and illegal possession of pharmaceutical products.

Additional charges may be preferred once investigations are completed.

Authorities have urged members of the public to verify the registration status of health facilities before seeking treatment and to report suspicious clinics to the nearest police station or health office.

The county government has also pledged to intensify inspections and enforcement to protect residents from unsafe and illegal medical services.
