The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has firmly dismissed claims that the party has resolved to back President William Ruto’s re election bid.
Speaking amid mounting rumors, Sifuna said ODM remains guided by its internal structures and collective decision making processes, none of which have endorsed such a position.
Sifuna emphasized that ODM is a democratic party with clear organs mandated to determine its political direction.
He noted that any decision of such magnitude would require extensive consultations, formal resolutions and approval by the party’s leadership and membership.
According to him, suggestions that ODM has already settled on supporting Ruto are misleading and risk confusing supporters.
The Nairobi Senator further clarified that while ODM, like other political formations, engages in dialogue on national issues, this should not be interpreted as surrendering its political identity or long term ambitions.

He stressed that issue based cooperation in Parliament or on matters of national interest does not automatically translate into electoral alliances.
Sifuna also took aim at what he described as deliberate attempts to portray ODM as politically weakened or indecisive.
He maintained that the party remains focused on strengthening its grassroots structures, articulating policy alternatives, and preparing for future electoral contests.
ODM has its own vision for the country, and that vision cannot be reduced to rumors or speculation,” he said.
The remarks come at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is experiencing early maneuvering, with parties testing alliances and recalibrating strategies long before the official campaign period.
President Ruto’s administration has in recent months attracted leaders from across the political divide, fueling speculation about a possible broad based political arrangement.
However, Sifuna insisted that ODM’s position should not be inferred from individual actions or isolated engagements by some leaders.
As the 2027 race slowly comes into focus, ODM’s leadership says its priority is to remain united and principled.
Sifuna concluded by urging party members and the public to rely on official communication channels, warning that premature conclusions could undermine informed political discourse.
