President William Ruto has pledged Sh200 billion to fund a wide range of development projects across Nairobi City, marking one of the most ambitious investment commitments to the capital in recent years.
The President said the funding is aimed at improving infrastructure, boosting service delivery and addressing long standing challenges facing residents of Kenya’s largest city.
Speaking during a public engagement in Nairobi, Ruto noted that the capital plays a critical role in the country’s economic growth and therefore requires sustained investment to support its growing population.
He said the funds will be channeled into key sectors including roads, housing, water and sanitation, health, transport and urban renewal programmes.
According to the President, a significant portion of the Sh200 billion will go towards upgrading road networks and improving traffic flow within the city.
Nairobi has for years struggled with congestion, partly due to rapid urbanisation and inadequate infrastructure.
Ruto said the government is prioritising the construction and expansion of major roads, footbridges and non motorised transport corridors to ease movement and improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
Housing is also expected to benefit from the funding, with the President reiterating his administration’s commitment to affordable housing.
He said new housing projects will be rolled out in several parts of the city to help address the housing deficit while creating jobs for young people.
The projects will be implemented in collaboration with the Nairobi County Government and private sector partners.

Ruto said resources have been set aside to improve water supply and sewerage systems, particularly in informal settlements that have long suffered from poor sanitation.
Health facilities, including hospitals and clinics, will also receive upgrades to enhance access to quality healthcare for residents.
The President emphasised that accountability and transparency will be key in the implementation of the projects.
He directed relevant government agencies to ensure that funds are used efficiently and projects are completed on time.
Ruto also called for cooperation between the national government, county leadership and residents to ensure the success of the initiatives.
The Sh200 billion pledge has been welcomed by some leaders and residents, who say it could significantly improve living conditions in the capital if properly implemented.
However, others have urged the government to focus on effective execution and oversight to ensure the promised transformation of Nairobi becomes a reality.
