President William Ruto has announced that the national government has set aside Sh35 billion for development projects in Kakamega County.
The funding injection he said will accelerate infrastructure expansion, improve public services and stimulate economic growth in the region.
The President made the announcement on Wednesday. He was speaking at the FCPA Barasa Governor’s Cup final. The event was held at the iconic Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
The event drew thousands of sports fans, regional leaders and community stakeholders.
Ruto said the allocation reflects the government’s renewed commitment to equitable development.

This will ensure that counties receive sufficient support to unlock their potential and improve livelihoods.
This investment is proof that development will not be concentrated in only a few regions. Every Kenyan, regardless of where they live, deserves opportunity, dignity, and access to essential services,” Ruto said amid applause from the charged crowd.
The President said improved connectivity will reduce transport costs for farmers and small businesses. This will enable them to get their produce to markets faster. They can also achieve higher profit margins.
Ruto also announced that healthcare infrastructure will be strengthened. Planned upgrades to major hospitals are part of this effort. There will be an expansion of maternal health units. Additionally, modernization of medical equipment is included.
He noted that the government aims to reduce patient congestion. It also aims to enhance emergency care. The goal is to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible at the county level.
On education, the President said funds will support the construction of new classrooms. The funds will also improve technical training institutions. Additionally, funds will integrate digital learning.

He highlighted the role of vocational training in equipping youth with employable skills, linking education to job creation.
A major pillar of the projects, Ruto said, is employment generation.
He promised that the initiatives will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs,to the youths.
The President said the government will prioritize local labor in project execution and partner with micro-enterprises for supply contracts.
Governor Fernandes Barasa hosted the tournament. He thanked the President for the development pledge. He called it a game-changer for the county.
Kakamega has immense human capital and agricultural promise. With this support, we are ready to deliver progress that our people can feel,” Barasa said.
Local leaders, including MPs and MCAs in attendance, echoed optimism that the allocation could redefine the county’s development trajectory.
The Governor’s Cup final, ended on a celebratory note as residents welcomed the funding promise with chants of “Maendeleo Mashinani”
Ruto urged county leaders and citizens to uphold accountability and unity in delivering the projects.
He also added that national and devolved governments must collaborate closely to turn budgets into tangible outcomes.
