President William Ruto has declared that only the will of the people will determine his political future in the 2027 General Election, dismissing growing chants from critics calling for him to serve a single term.
Speaking in Siaya County on March 24, 2026, the Head of State addressed mounting pressure from sections of Kenyan youth and leaders aligned to the opposition who have questioned his administration’s delivery on key campaign promises.
These include commitments to improve education, create jobs, and strengthen the economy.
Ruto firmly stated that political slogans such as “one term” or “two terms” would not influence the outcome of the next election. Instead, he emphasized that his track record in office would be the ultimate deciding factor for voters.

“The people of Kenya are the ones who will decide. It is not about noise or slogans,” Ruto said during his address. “What matters is the work we are doing and the development we are delivering across the country.”
The President urged opposition leaders to shift their focus from personal attacks and political rhetoric to presenting tangible agendas that address the needs of ordinary citizens.
According to him, meaningful competition in leadership should be based on ideas and performance rather than criticism.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity as early alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls. A section of opposition figures has intensified criticism of his leadership, accusing the government of falling short on its promises.
However, Ruto expressed confidence that his administration’s development record will speak for itself when the time comes.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes are now on how both the government and opposition will position themselves in the run-up to the next general election.
