Trans Nzoia County Governor His Excellency George Natembeya has suffered a significant political setback after one of his close allies, Honorable Wetoto Werunga, officially defected to the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP), aligning himself with President William Ruto’s camp.

Werunga, who was among the key figures that strongly supported Natembeya during his successful first-term gubernatorial campaign, announced his decision through a detailed statement shared on his social media platforms.

In the statement, the legislator revealed that his move was made after “deep reflection” and was not driven by anger, fear, or pressure.“

I have chosen to join the ruling party in the belief that this path offers a better opportunity to serve,” Werunga stated, adding that leadership sometimes demands a change of approach rather than a change of values.

He emphasized that his decision was motivated by the desire to contribute more effectively by working closer to where national decisions are made.

Werunga acknowledged that his choice may spark debate and emotional reactions, but maintained that it was made in good faith and with humility. He

He also expressed gratitude for the political journey, friendships, and ideals that have shaped him over the years.Political

Political observers view Werunga’s defection as a major blow to Governor Natembeya, especially as the ruling party intensifies efforts to consolidate its influence and control in Trans Nzoia County ahead of future political contests.
