Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of boasting about his past position while failing to deliver meaningful development projects for his constituents.

Speaking during a public engagement, Kindiki said true leadership is measured by service and tangible results rather than public displays of pride over titles.

He noted that some of Kenya’s most respected leaders held powerful offices but remained humble throughout their time in government.

The Deputy President cited former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta as examples of leaders who never felt the need to brag about their positions despite overseeing major national projects and significant economic milestones.

According to Kindiki, leadership should be about improving the lives of citizens rather than constantly reminding the public about the offices one has held.

He further questioned why Gachagua continues to emphasize his former role as Deputy President, arguing that political leaders should instead focus on the impact they have made in their communities.

Kindiki maintained that Kenyans are more interested in development, accountability and results rather than political chest-thumping.

The remarks add to the growing political tensions between the two leaders, who have recently exchanged sharp criticism in public forums as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Observers say the escalating war of words reflects deeper political rivalry within the ruling establishment and could influence alliances and regional support bases in the coming years.

Despite the criticism, Gachagua has previously defended his record, insisting that he served the country diligently and remains committed to speaking out on national issues.

The latest exchange underscores the increasingly heated political atmosphere, with senior leaders openly challenging each other’s legacy and leadership style as the country slowly moves toward the next electoral cycle.
