Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has ignited fresh political debate after publicly declaring that he will contest in the 2027 General Election, a statement that is set to reshape opposition politics and intensify early campaigns across the country.
Speaking to supporters during a public gathering, Kalonzo left no room for ambiguity about his intentions.
I made it clear that I will be on the ballot in 2027,” he told attendees, drawing loud applause from the crowd. The declaration ends months of speculation over whether the seasoned politician would once again seek the presidency or support another opposition candidate.
Kalonzo’s announcement comes at a time when the opposition is grappling with internal realignments and growing pressure from supporters demanding clarity on leadership going into the next election cycle.
His statement is likely to send shockwaves through opposition ranks, particularly within formations allied to veteran leader Raila Odinga, whose future political plans remain a subject of intense national discussion.
The Wiper leader used the opportunity to position himself as a ready and tested alternative, arguing that Kenya needs leadership anchored on integrity, economic revival and national unity.
He accused the current administration of failing to address the high cost of living, unemployment and what he termed as growing public frustration with governance.

According to Kalonzo, the 2027 election will not just be about personalities but about rescuing the country from poor leadership choices.
He urged Kenyans to begin preparing for a people driven movement that prioritizes constitutionalism, devolution and inclusive development.
Some observers argue that by announcing his intentions early, Kalonzo is positioning himself as a serious contender rather than a perennial running mate.
Supporters at the event described the announcement as long overdue, saying Kalonzo has the experience and national outlook needed to lead the country.
“This is the clarity we have been waiting for. He should not step aside this time,” said one supporter.
However, critics caution that Kalonzo will face an uphill task convincing a fragmented opposition to rally behind his candidacy, especially if other heavyweights also declare their interest.
The coming months are expected to be marked by intense negotiations, alliances, and political manoeuvres as the race to 2027 slowly gathers momentum.
With his bold declaration now on record, Kalonzo has effectively fired the starting gun for what promises to be a heated and unpredictable road to the next general election.
