Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has challenged Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, asserting that his home region contributes fewer votes in national elections compared to Western Kenya.
This claim has stirred political debate within the Orange Democratic Movement.
Speaking during burial of Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus’s Jirongos, Osotsi took aim at Junet’s recent criticism of party leadership, particularly over ODM’s post Raila Odinga strategy and alliance discussions with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Osotsi argued that Western Kenya remains one of the most critical vote blocks in national politics due to its sizable voter base, suggesting that regions like Suna East must recognize their comparative electoral weight before levelling political attacks.
Your region contributes fewer votes than Western Kenya,” Osotsi said.
Osotsi underscored his point by referencing past election voter tallies that show Western counties collectively command a larger share of the national electorate.
Analysts note that in the 2022 presidential election, regions such as Mount Kenya and Western held significant registered voter numbers that influenced the result, with Mount Kenya alone recording nearly 3 million registered voters.
Junet, a senior ODM official and outspoken Minority Leader in the National Assembly, has been vocal about ODM’s direction following the death of Raila Odinga, pushing for clear terms before supporting President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
His comments have drawn mixed reactions from within the party, with some urging unity while others stress the need to protect ODM’s core vote base.
