Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has launched the Masomo Kwa Wote program.
A major education initiative aimed at boosting access, retention and academic performance among learners in the constituency.
The program will see Sh54 million committed from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). This funding will support school fees and meals for more than 12,000 day primary and secondary school students.
Speaking during the launch, Wamumbi said the initiative is designed to address key challenges. These challenges have continued to undermine learning outcomes. They include poverty, absenteeism, and hunger.
He noted that many students from low-income families are often forced to miss school. They perform poorly due to a lack of basic necessities. This occurs despite the government’s efforts to promote free and compulsory education.
Under the Masomo Kwa Wote program, learners in public day schools will benefit from targeted fee support as well as a structured school meals component.
According to the MP, providing meals will not only improve attendance but also enhance concentration in class, leading to better academic results.
A hungry child cannot learn effectively. This program ensures that no child in Mathira is left behind simply because of their economic background,” Wamumbi said.

Education stakeholders in the constituency welcomed the move, describing it as timely and impactful.
School heads said the initiative will ease the financial burden on parents. It will also allow teachers to focus more on instruction rather than chasing fees.
Parents also expressed relief, saying the program would help keep their children in school amid rising costs of living.
Wamumbi emphasized that the Sh54 million allocation reflects his commitment to prioritizing education. He sees it as a long-term investment in the constituency’s future.
He added that transparent implementation and accountability mechanisms will be put in place to ensure the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
The MP further urged students to take advantage of the opportunity by remaining disciplined and focused on their studies.
As Mathira grapples with economic pressures affecting households, the Masomo Kwa Wote program is being seen as a transformative step toward inclusive education and improved academic performance across the constituency.
