Former Shinyalu Member of Parliament Daniel Lyula Khamasi
Khamasi served Shinyalu Constituency in Kakamega County for two consecutive terms from 1997 to 2007.
First elected on a Ford Kenya ticket, he was re-elected in 2002 under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) during a period of major political reform in the country.
Throughout his decade in Parliament, he was known for championing grassroots development, including improvements in education, rural infrastructure and access to basic services for his constituents.
His nephew, Hillary Amboso, disclosed that Khamasi had been battling diabetes and high blood pressure, health challenges that contributed to his deteriorating condition prior to his death.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa described Khamasi as a dedicated public servant whose contribution to Shinyalu and Kakamega County will be remembered, offering heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and the people of Shinyalu.
Khamasi’s death comes as yet another loss for Western Kenya’s political community, following recent passings of other former lawmakers.
Arrangements for memorial services and his burial are expected to take place soon as family, friends and well-wishers prepare to honour his life and public service.
