Speaking during a meeting with Kenyans living and working in Peterborough, Gachagua said he was deeply encouraged by the spirit of togetherness displayed by the diaspora community despite living thousands of kilometres away from Kenya.

He noted that the gathering reflected the strength and resilience of Kenyans abroad who continue to support one another while also contributing significantly to the country’s economy through remittances and investments.

The former deputy president described the Kenyan diaspora as a critical pillar of national development, saying their role goes beyond sending money back home. According to Gachagua, Kenyans abroad have become ambassadors of the country’s culture, values and hard work across the world.

He applauded the Peterborough community for maintaining close ties with Kenya and preserving their cultural identity while integrating into life in the United Kingdom.

Gachagua said the unity he witnessed among the residents should serve as an example to leaders and communities back home.

During the interaction, members of the Kenyan diaspora raised concerns about governance, economic challenges and the high cost of living affecting families back home. Others urged leaders to embrace dialogue and national unity in order to steer the country toward stability and prosperity.

His visit to Peterborough forms part of a broader diaspora outreach programme aimed at engaging Kenyans living in different parts of the United Kingdom. The meetings have attracted large crowds of Kenyans eager to discuss the political and economic direction of the country.

As the tour continues, the former deputy president is expected to hold more meetings with Kenyan communities across the UK, where discussions are likely to focus on governance, national unity and the role of the diaspora in Kenya’s future development.
