Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has strongly dismissed claims of fresh corruption at the National Youth Service (NYS).
He assured Kenyans that the institution remains stable, accountable and fully focused on empowering the youth.
Speaking amid renewed public debate and online speculation, CS Ruku said allegations of mismanagement and corruption at the NYS were misleading and risked undermining an institution that has undergone significant reforms in recent years.
He maintained that the service is operating strictly within its mandate and delivering tangible benefits to young people across the country.
The National Youth Service is stable, accountable and functional. Claims of fresh corruption are unfounded and do not reflect the reality on the ground,” Ruku stated. He emphasized that the government has strengthened oversight mechanisms to ensure transparency, prudent use of public resources and adherence to the law.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that NYS has implemented robust financial controls, procurement reforms and internal audit systems aimed at preventing past mistakes from recurring.
According to Ruku, these measures have restored confidence in the institution and allowed it to refocus on skills development, national service and youth empowerment programmes.
Ruku further highlighted ongoing NYS initiatives, including vocational training, infrastructure development projects and community service programmes, which he said have created employment opportunities and equipped thousands of young Kenyans with practical skills.
He stressed that the institution plays a critical role in addressing youth unemployment and nurturing discipline, patriotism and self-reliance.
We cannot allow misinformation to derail programmes that are transforming lives. NYS exists to serve the youth, and we remain committed to safeguarding its integrity,” he said.
The CS also urged the public, political leaders and media to verify information before circulating claims that could damage public trust.
He encouraged anyone with credible evidence of wrongdoing to present it to relevant investigative agencies rather than making blanket accusations.
Ruku reaffirmed that his ministry will continue to monitor NYS operations closely to ensure accountability, transparency and maximum impact for young people nationwide.
