A group of Nairobi legislators has publicly backed the cooperation agreement between the National Government and Nairobi County, asserting that the pact aligns with the law and will benefit residents.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, TJ Kajwang’, Peter Orero, Karen Nyamu, Phelix Odiwuor, Anthony Oluoch, Hamida Kibwana, Tabitha Mutinda and Esther Passaris underscored the importance of collaboration between different levels of government.
The legislators highlighted that such partnerships are critical in ensuring efficient service delivery and addressing long-standing infrastructural and social challenges in Nairobi.
They argued that the agreement is in line with legal frameworks governing county and national government interactions.
“Working together is not just legal; it is essential for the progress of our city,” said TJ Kajwang’, who has previously championed urban development projects.
The residents of Nairobi deserve swift, tangible results, and this agreement provides a framework for coordinated action.

Peter Orero emphasized that cooperation between the two levels of government would prevent duplication of efforts and misuse of public resources.
He noted that the arrangement would ensure transparency, accountability, and better resource allocation for development projects.
Karen Nyamu and Esther Passaris also praised the agreement, stating that it creates opportunities for joint planning and execution of projects that impact education, health, roads and housing.
They stressed that political differences should not interfere with initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Nairobi residents.
County governments are closer to the people, and when they collaborate with the national government, the benefits are immediate and measurable,” said Karen Nyamu. “This is a win-win situation for all stakeholders.”
The legislators further clarified that supporting the cooperation does not imply endorsing any political agenda but is purely in the interest of legal governance and citizen welfare.
They encouraged other county representatives to embrace similar partnerships to accelerate development and service delivery.
Analysts have noted that cooperation agreements between counties and the national government have in the past led to significant improvements in areas such as road infrastructure, waste management and health services.
By publicly supporting the pact, the Nairobi legislators are sending a strong message of unity and a commitment to prioritizing citizens’ needs above political differences.
As Nairobi continues to grow, such collaborative efforts are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable urban development, improved public services, and enhanced accountability in governance.
