The National Unity Platform has raised fresh concerns over the safety of its presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi.

This is after reports emerged that his home was under siege by security operatives.

According to NUP Head of Finance, Benjamin Katana, access to Kyagulanyi’s residence has allegedly been restricted.

With heavy security deployment reported in and around the area.

Katana described the situation as alarming, saying it had heightened anxiety among party supporters and the general public amid the ongoing electoral process.

This is deeply troubling. We are receiving reports that the president of NUP is effectively under house arrest, with movement restricted and security forces surrounding his home,” Katana said in a statement. He added that the developments raised serious questions about political freedoms and the safety of opposition leaders during a critical national moment.

The reports come as the Electoral Commission continues to release provisional presidential results.

However, Katana also took issue with how the results are being communicated to the public. She is accusing the Commission of a lack of transparency.

He claimed that results are being announced without clearly specifying the districts or polling areas they originate from. This lack of clarity makes it difficult to independently track and verify the tallying process.

“Results are being presented in aggregated figures without district breakdowns. This undermines credibility and fuels suspicion,” Katana said.

NUP officials argue that district-level disclosure is essential for accountability, especially in a tightly contested election.

They insist that voters deserve clarity on how votes are being counted and from where the reported figures are coming.

The Electoral Commission has previously maintained that it is following the law and established procedures in tallying and announcing results, urging patience as the process continues.

However, opposition parties and civil society groups have repeatedly called for greater openness to avoid disputes and unrest.

Tension continues to build. Political observers warn that the reported siege at Kyagulanyi’s home could further polarize the country. The controversy surrounding results transmission might also contribute to this polarization.

Many are now calling on security agencies and the Electoral Commission. They want them to reassure the public by upholding transparency. It is important to respect political rights and ensure the safety of all candidates. Uganda awaits the final outcome of the presidential election.
