With about 60 per cent of polling stations counted, President Yoweri Museveni is on course. He seems set to secure a record seventh term as Uganda’s head of state.

According to provisional results released by the Electoral Commission.

The early tally places Museveni significantly ahead of his main challenger, opposition leader Bobi Wine.

Preliminary figures indicate Museveni commanding roughly 75 per cent of the votes counted so far. Bobi Wine trails with about 20 per cent.

The remaining percentage is shared among other candidates.

Officials caution that the count is ongoing. Final results are yet to be announced. The margin has already sparked strong reactions across the political spectrum.

Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for decades, has campaigned on a platform of stability, economic growth, and security.

His supporters say the early lead reflects confidence in his leadership and experience, particularly at a time of regional and global uncertainty.

In several areas, celebrations have already begun, with supporters citing the provisional results as evidence of a decisive mandate.

On the other hand, Bobi Wine’s camp has expressed concern over the credibility of the process.

Opposition figures argue that the wide margin revealed by early tallies does not reflect the enthusiasm seen during their campaign rallies and have called for close monitoring of the remaining count.

They insist that every vote must be accounted for and have urged their supporters to remain vigilant but peaceful.

As counting continues, observers both within Uganda and abroad are watching closely.

The coming hours will be critical in determining whether the early trend holds and how the opposition responds should Museveni’s lead be confirmed.

For now, all eyes remain on the Electoral Commission as Uganda awaits the final outcome of a pivotal election.
