President William Ruto has hit back at Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka following criticism over the government’s youth empowerment funding.
He ignited fresh political debate on leadership legacy and economic priorities.
Speaking at a public function, the President dismissed claims that the funds allocated to young people were inadequate. He instead turned the spotlight on Kalonzo’s long political career.
Ruto questioned Kalonzo’s record, asking how much he had personally invested in empowering the youth during his decades in leadership.
The President remarked that young people do not view the funds as “kidogo.” He argued that those on the ground understand the value of the support. They are already putting it to productive use.

Ruto emphasized that his administration’s focus is on practical interventions. These initiatives directly affect the lives of ordinary Kenyans. This is particularly true for the youth who continue to grapple with unemployment and limited access to capital.
He said the funds are meant to unlock opportunities. They will support small enterprises. The goal is to encourage self-reliance rather than dependency on political rhetoric.
Ruto insisted that progress should be measured by outcomes rather than comparisons. He noted that many young beneficiaries have already started businesses. Others have begun income-generating activities.
Kalonzo is a veteran politician with over four decades in public life. He has previously criticized the government’s economic agenda. He argues that more resources are needed to meaningfully transform the lives of young Kenyans.
His comments have resonated with sections of the opposition who accuse the administration of underfunding social programs.
As the political temperature rises, the exchange reflects an emerging battle for the youth vote, with both sides keen to frame themselves as the true champions of young people ahead of future political contests.
