In recent days, a section of leaders from the Nyanza region has openly rallied behind President William Ruto, pledging support for his 2027 re-election bid.
The leaders argue that their decision is anchored on tangible development gains realized since they entered into a broad-based working arrangement with the national government.
Speaking at various public engagements across the region, the lawmakers and county officials said cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration has unlocked stalled projects and accelerated new investments in infrastructure, agriculture and trade.
They pointed to road rehabilitation works, expansion of electricity connectivity, and increased funding for small-scale traders as evidence that engagement, rather than confrontation, yields results.
According to the leaders, the broad-based framework has enabled closer consultation between the executive and local leadership, ensuring that Nyanza’s priorities are factored into national planning.
They maintained that the region had for years lagged behind in certain key sectors due to adversarial politics, and that the new approach is already bearing fruit.
We cannot afford to remain in perpetual opposition when our people need services,” one of the MPs said, emphasizing that development should supersede partisan divisions.

Another governor allied to the group noted that national unity and economic stability require leaders to put aside rivalry and focus on practical solutions.
The leaders further highlighted ongoing projects in blue economy initiatives along Lake Victoria, affordable housing programs, and the revival of sugar factories as milestones achieved through cooperation.
They claimed that youth employment opportunities have expanded under joint efforts between county governments and national agencies.
However, their stance has sparked mixed reactions within the region, traditionally considered a stronghold of opposition politics.
Critics accuse the pro-Ruto faction of prioritizing political survival over ideological consistency, arguing that development should not be conditional on political alignment.
Despite the criticism, the leaders insisted their support is issue-based and performance driven.
They said they would continue engaging the national government to secure additional funding for health facilities, modern markets, and water projects.
Political analysts observe that the endorsement could significantly reshape voting patterns if sustained, particularly if more grassroots leaders join the fold.
They note that Nyanza’s political influence remains pivotal in any national contest.
As 2027 draws closer, the region appears poised for an intense political contest, with alliances likely to define the next chapter.
For now, the pro-government leaders say their focus remains clear: consolidate gains, deepen cooperation, and ensure that development momentum is not derailed.
